Our Conversation on Radio-Canada: Why Scriptfest Matters Now More Than Ever

This week, Scriptfest t hit the airwaves. Mathieu Séguin joined Daniel Aubin on Radio-Canada to talk in french about the momentum building in Northern Ontario’s film community and the vision behind Scriptfest. The conversation was honest, electric, and full of the energy that drives everything we’re doing.

Mathieu spoke about how filmmaking has changed. The tools that once belonged only to Hollywood are now accessible right here in Sudbury. The difference isn’t the gear. It’s the ideas, the point of view, and the community behind the work. And that’s exactly where Scriptfest shines.

On the radio, Mathieu shared why telling our own stories matters. Life in Northern Ontario is different. Our landscapes, our experiences, our humour, our struggles, our daily rhythms. These things shape unique stories worth seeing on the big screen. Scriptfest exists to bring those stories forward.

Daniel asked who Scriptfest is for. The answer was simple: everyone. Filmmakers, writers, editors, actors, first-timers, dreamers, and anyone who feels the pull to create. Scriptfest is a home for ideas and a place where beginners stand shoulder to shoulder with experienced filmmakers. It’s social, collaborative, and fueled by creativity.

Mathieu also talked about the reality of making films. Finishing a project is hard, and it takes community to get through the long haul of post-production. That’s why Scriptfest builds a culture where we support each other, share resources, celebrate wins, and push each other to the next level. There is no competition here. Only momentum.

And the momentum is real. Mathieu highlighted that simply by running Scriptfest programs, we’ve already made four films, all produced with local talent and reinvested directly into the local economy. When a community backs its own creators, the result is powerful: more films, more opportunities, and a stronger local industry.

The conversation closed with a big idea: in places like Quebec, people show up for local cinema. It’s part of their culture. Scriptfest is building that same foundation in Northern Ontario. A place where our stories belong on the screen and our filmmakers feel supported enough to keep going.

Radio-Canada gave us the chance to share this vision with the wider community, and we’re just getting started.

Scriptfest Season 3 is underway.

The energy is rising.

And the creator within all of us is waking up.

Stay tuned for more.
