Awaken the Creator Within III

A Wild Night of Local Cinema and Live Show!

January 7, 2026

Best comment of the evening: “It was like being on an acid trip without taking acid.”

We say that honestly because the audience felt the range of what was on screen. The projector carried us through entirely different worlds, tones, and perspectives, all created right here in the North. The variety was electric, and the response in the room made it clear: local cinema hits different when it’s experienced together.

The goal of these events is simple but ambitious: to inspire and empower. To prove that the talent already exists here and that when given a screen and an audience, it rises. These films did not disappoint.

The Star Filmmakers of the Night

  • Porchetta Di Sudbury – Brandon Gray

  • A Widow at the Centre of a Web – James Bok

  • Healing With the Land: Gwekwaadziwin Miikan – Paul Los

  • Xing – Micheal Nathan

  • Phantom Line Episode 1 – Piotr Skowronski

These filmmakers were the true stars of the show. Seeing their work projected, shared, and celebrated is exactly why this series exists.

But the night didn’t stop at the screen. It bent reality.

We had a live VR demonstration of XR Media by Sudburyfilms.com, where a dragon flew above the city of Sudbury and slipped through portals into virtual spaces inside local businesses. Every world was interconnected through their gaming engine GIV’N, blending the real and virtual into a single experience. It added a whole new layer of trippiness to the night and expanded what a film screening can be.

What made it even more surreal is that some of the best moments were happening under the bleachers.

Below the audience, Socks and Sleeves were interviewing the directors of the films that had just screened. These interviews were filmed live, directly beneath the crowd, and projected back onto the big screen in real time. Most people didn’t realize what they were watching was happening right under their feet… until they did. That realization doubled down on the magic and turned the venue itself into part of the storytelling.

To add even more spice to the soup, we were joined by the interdimensional soul Storm Walker, whose poetic readings carried wisdom, humor, and grounding energy through the room.

The talented troupe bringing Socks and Sleeves to life are all local actors from the DonutStar Workshop, led by Dylan Gibson. Special thanks to Olena for serving as Stage Manager and keeping the entire night on time while juggling chaos with grace.

A Giveaway Nobody Saw Coming

This night would not have been possible without our IMAX-level sponsor Incapture Media. Their support went beyond making the event happen. They helped turn it into an experience.

At the start of the show, we teased the audience with a mystery box. Guesses flew. No one came close.

Near the end of the night, we revealed it: a one-of-a-kind, real movie prop used in Tenet, directed by Christopher Nolan. The actual face mask worn by the soldiers at the end of the film.

The giveaway will happen at our next and final event, where we’ll draw a name from the audience.

Which means one thing. You have to be there.

Final Show: January 21

This night was another powerful reminder of why local cinema matters. Stories made here. Voices from here. Shared together in a room that’s alive.

Our last and final show is January 21.Come out. Support local cinema. Be part of the moment.
